I’d visited the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) site many times, carefully reading their rigorous list of requirements for membership. At first, I was a bit intimidated, but at the same time I felt challenged and also inspired. After some time, I finally felt ready to apply for membership last Fall. When I received the acceptance letter last year, I’d felt as though I received an award in that alone.

Each quarter, the WPJA holds a contest for images created in that quarter. Quarter three, 2011, would be my fourth contest with submissions. On Christmas Eve, I received an email, “WPJA Q3 Contest is now live on the site” I always enjoy looking at the results and so I clicked the link. Flipping through the galleries, I stumbled across one of my own. The category was “ceremony” and mine placed 8th out of 20! To say I was excited is an under-statement. This had been a goal of mine for quite some time. And there it was. I flipped through the rest of the categories, viewing each stunning image after the next, when to top it all off, there was yet another one of my images; 3rd place under the “engagement” category. I am so very proud and humbled to have two of my images recognized by the WPJA this quarter. To be amongst this incredible group of photographers is an honor.

Fearless Awards

Fearless Photographers is a network of photographers that continues to grow; making the competition steeper, the images more breathtaking, and the inspiration more intense. I could not be prouder to be part of this organization and to have one of my images awarded from the Round 7 competition. The organization provides a description, which I have provided below. In my own words, Fearless Photographers is a network of photographers who challenge the notion that the safe shot, is the most important shot. They push themselves to go beyond the confines of traditional wedding photography to bring their clients very bold, remarkable, story-telling images.

Fearless Photographers is an organization that showcases wedding photography at it’s best. “We are very selective about the images that you see on our site. We only want to show our best! Thus only the top 10% of all images submitted by over 200 photographers are worthy to be called Fearless Awards and are showcased on the Fearless Photographers site. It’s considered a great honor among our photographers to have earned these Awards. You can click here to see which photographers have achieved the most awards.”

Adrienne + Charlie- Wedding

Adrienne and Charlie met at a San Francisco Giants game four years ago. This past weekend, the two married at The Mountain View Winery in Saratoga, surrounded by vineyards and over-looking the valley, it was an absolutely stunning place for their nuptials. I could not adore Adrienne and Charlie any more! They are such, sweet, thoughtful and FUN people! Their wedding was the perfect way to wrap what will likely be the last post of 2011!

Adrienne + Erwin- Citizen Hotel Wedding

As you flip through Adrienne and Erwin’s wedding images, you’ll see an easy-going, fun-loving, infectious couple who laugh often and love like crazy. Their Citizen Hotel Wedding was absolutely fabulous! Simple as that.

April + Brian- Wedding

When I think of April and Brian, I can’t help but smile. Simply put, April and Brian are just good people. You’d be hard pressed to find another couple with hearts bigger than these two. April and Brian said many times, that this wasn’t just their day, it belonged to everyone they carefully chose to spend it with and it definitely felt that way. It was a very unique and special atmosphere that is difficult to put into words. They married at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg and I loved being there for every moment.

Brittany + Mark- Wedding

During their reception, Mark spoke about how life is sometimes a series of little decisions that ultimately lead you down the path you were always meant to travel down. Call it destiny or serendipity, Mark and Brittany’s paths were meant to cross. Brittany and Mark are incredible people with huge hearts. They both care for others very much and they have a strong desire to take care of those closest to them; this was evident throughout their wedding. Brittany and Mark chose to marry in November and instead of risking rain in Northern California, which, I’m relatively sure it did in fact rain, they planned a destination wedding in Palm Springs, California. They married at the Hyatt Grand Champion Resort with 70 degree weather, hummingbirds, laughter, love and perfection!

Lisa + Adam- Union Hill Inn Wedding

I’m just not entirely sure where to begin with Lisa and Adam. When I think of them, it makes me smile. It makes me feel warm and squishy. Lisa and Adam have such an incredible admiration for each other that is obvious to anyone who spends more than 3 seconds with them. The way they love, to me, is the definition of what it means to love someone completely. They don’t seem to have a single reservation. No but’s or if’s. It’s absolute. Their love is remarkable and I am incredibly fortunate to have been able to witness and document that. They had their wedding at the Union Hill Inn in Sonora, Ca which is becoming one of my favorite venues. It’s beautiful, unique and the Inn keeper, Barbra is sweet and everything you’d hope for!

Nichole + Ryan- Wedding

Nichole and Ryan are like potato chips, you really just can’t get enough of them. Really, they are that awesome.! They are incredibly fun people with big hearts! Nichole and Ryan spent two years planning their wedding. They took their time and really enjoyed the process and what resulted was an incredibly flawless and gorgeous day! Nichole and Ryan said their vows in St. Helena which was absolutely gorgeous and allowed for the most fantastic setting for their portraits.
